Mr. Newby has amassed deep subject matter expertise and contacts in the telecom networking industry spanning 15 years. He is the Founder and CEO of Allied Fiber and prior to founding Allied Fiber, he was the Chief Strategy Officer and a Director of The Telx Group, Inc., one of the leading carrier hotel interconnection facility operators in the U.S. Under Mr. Newby’s direction, Telx successfully created an entirely new business model originating in New York City, expanding to Atlanta and ultimately nationwide and in the process built one of the strongest brand names for carrier-neutral, core interconnection facilities in the world. Mr. Newby is a recognized authority in the industry, has served on several Advisory Boards, is a published author, public speaker and the recipient of numerous awards including being named to the Global Telecoms Business Top 40 Under 40 in 2010. Mr. Newby earned a B.S. in Communications from Drexel University.

Michael P. Miller

With over 30-years of management experience, Mr. Miller was President and CEO of JumpLinc LLC, a startup company that provides small cell deployment nationwide, and Founder and CEO of FiberLight, a company specializing in metro dark fiber as well as lit services.

At FiberLight, Miller built out over $600 million in metro rings in 23 markets. During his tenure at FiberLight he oversaw growth of over 700% in 10 years. Throughout his entire career, Miller was responsible for building more than 11,000 route miles and 4.5 million miles of fiber.

Alfred Moran is an expert in transforming companies into positions of prosperity and optimum value. He specializes in strategic, operational and financial best practices. As CEO and consultant to Senior Management he has been responsible for over 70 company transformations. His Mission is to Top-Grade the companies he leads and the managements with whom he works. With his objective of optimizing best practices, Alfred has held seven CEO positions and three NYSE traded public company directorships.

Alfred is a member of the Board of Directors and Audit Committee Chairman of the Center Coast MLP & Infrastructure Fund, Inc. (NYSE:CEN) and the Board of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) Texas TriCities Chapter. He is a former Director and Audit Committee Chairman of Cornell Companies, Inc. (NYSE:CRN) and a former board member of Plains Resources, Inc. (NYSE: PLX/PAA).

In 2013 he left the City of Houston as the Director of Administration & Regulatory Affairs. As the City of Houston Chief Administrative Officer and Chief Regulatory Officer, he served for six years in both the Bill White and Annise Parker Administrations.

He has an MBA from the Harvard Business School and a BA in Philosophy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a Member of World Presidents Organization (WPO) in Houston.

Scott Drake is a seasoned telecom CFO with over 25+ years of comprehensive experience leading organizations through periods of growth, profitability, productivity and market share. Mr. Drake’s experience in telecom M&A includes identifying, closing and integrating companies, representing over $750 million in transaction value. 

Prior to joining Allied Fiber, Mr. Drake was EVP & Chief Financial Officer of Broadvox. Three months following their acquisition of former public company Cypress Communications, Mr. Drake retained as CFO to oversee consolidated financial operations of parent and all subsidiary companies with annual consolidated revenues of ~$110 million and 300+ employees.

Patrick Opelt

Mr. Opelt is an experienced executive in the Telecommunications industry, managing, developing, constructing and maintaining long distance, dark fiber networks for over 15 years. He has developed strategic client relationships with carriers, cable operators, colleges and universities, enterprise customers, state and municipal entities, railroads, and other dark fiber providers. Mr. Opelt has had ownership in a construction company specializing in telecommunications infrastructure and in a competitive access provider offering dark and dim fiber.

Mr. Opelt has facilitated operational relationships with states and municipalities to expedite the permitting process for new construction and to provide for long-term maintenance of fiber optic networks. Mr. Opelt has negotiated fiber “swaps” with other dark fiber providers and negotiated and managed joint telecommunication construction projects with multiple parties. In order to expedite the installation of fiber optic infrastructure in railroad right-of-way, he has developed relationships with several railroads, including the Norfolk Southern Railroad. He has worked as a consultant with The Management Network Group (TMNG), a firm focused on the communications marketplace, and as an independent consultant involved with US-based telecommunication organizations. Outside of the Telecommunications industry, Mr. Opelt has served as a consultant in the energy field and managed a wholly owned subsidiary for a natural gas distribution company. He has an MBA in Finance and Marketing.

Mr. Kannengieser is a talented and experienced professional in the accounting profession.  He has an extensive background in financial reporting, internal controls and processes required to operate a finance and accounting department.  Prior to joining Allied Fiber, LLC, Mr. Kannengieser worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLC for over 3 years in their auditing and attestation group.  Prior to that, Mr. Kannengieser served in a similar role in small boutique accounting firm.  Mr. Kannengieser is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of New York.  Mr. Kannengieser received his Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Economics from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA.

Ms. Sauer brings more than 10 years of international experience in brand management, marketing, event planning, communications and public relations to her role as marketing director at Allied Fiber and The Dark Fiber Community. Ms. Sauer’s primary focus is to continually increase global thought leadership and brand awareness to help drive business results for Allied Fiber and the Members of the Dark Fiber Community.

With digital media she has daily oversight of the Web sites, social media channels, and creation of all forms of thought leadership content. With event management she is responsible for all aspects from creation to completion including theme development, sponsorship, messaging and managing resources. With industry appearances she positions Allied Fiber’s executive leaders in their roles as experts at key industry and financial conferences, business forums and speaking engagements. An adept trend-spotter, she keeps in tune with industry developments and challenges and provides valuable business intelligence to the company and its partners.

Prior to her role at Allied Fiber, she led domestic and international marketing initiatives and implemented strategies that created improved efficiency and accelerated sales growth while ensuring maximum brand visibility on-time and on-budget.

Ms. Sauer holds a BA from Florida State University and is an avid runner and active supporter of many charities.

Long Haul Dark Fiber

Long haul typically relates to fiber that runs between major city pairs. Allied Fiber offers long term, long haul routes to clients via three primary options: 20 Year IRU, Lease-to-IRU and Monthly Lease.

Allied Fiber’s short haul fiber routes are designed to be accessed every 60-miles through handholes along the route for the purpose of adding or dropping off network services in a particular area.

Network-Neutral Colocation

The housing of transport equipment, servers and storage devices. Its purpose is to regenerate, or power boost, the light being carried in the fiber. Allied Fiber has placed network-neutral colocation facilities every 60-miles along the Short-Haul route. This is also a location for carriers to install equipment along the Allied Fiber route and perform the function of a meet me point for various networks.
